Frequently Asked Questions
- got any questions? Good, here are the answers :)

Here are the 20 most Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. What in the World is iBetaTest.com?
iBetaTest is an on-line service designed to bridge the gap between iPhone application developers and beta testers. It's here to provide iPhone developers with a community dedicated to quality control, and at the same time provide Beta Testers with what they crave the most: exclusive access / first look to the apps not yet seen (and maybe even some cash).

  2. What's the real purpose of this site?
To help developers make better apps and better the iTunes App Store in the long run. We all want apps that do not crash and that are well thought off. Only group testing can provide this.

  3. Can I test/submit apps for Jailbroken devices?
NO! We DO NOT support Jailbroken apps! iBetaTest.com is ONLY to be used for beta testing true, native iPhone/iPod touch applications, developed via iPhone SDK and provisioned through legal Apple channels.
Furthermore, our Terms of Service strictly prohibit this.

  4. Does my iPhone have to be Jailbroken for this?
NO! iBetaTest.com is here for applications that will ultimately end up in the iTunes App Store. You install the apps onto your device the way Apple intended it (see the next question).

  5. I need some UDID before I can apply for beta testing applications. What is this?
UDID is the Universal Device ID for your iPhone or iPod Touch. It is NOT a serial number, however it is very similar. It is 40 characters long and it is unique to every device. Developers need this piece of information in order to generate the "mobile provision" file, which in turn is a license you need in order to install the application onto your device. Without the mobile provision file you could not install the application onto your device.

  6. How do I find the UDID?
Until we get the how-to video for this, click here for instructions.

  7. How do I install a beta app or a game once I've been approved?
Here, watch our 5 minute how-to video to find out:

  8. Does every app have to be public?
No. Developers can use all the features iBetaTest.com offers and set their application as Private, in which case they can personally invite the beta testers they want for their app (either via email, or straight from iBetaTest.com).

  9. What features are there for developers?
Besides being able to tap into over 3000 registered beta testers, promote their app just by having it on the site, developers can also use iBetaTest for all aspects of beta testing. We offer a centralized system for everything developer may require throughout the beta life-cycle: invitation system, communications (email & reports modules [for bugs, feature requests and comments]), file downloads (with counters), easy download of ADC importable bundle of all approved beta testers and their UDID's and more. We also take care of common issues testers may have so developers can concentrate on developing (more about this in question #13).

  10. Can developers allow only beta testers with certain device types?
Of course. This is a very important aspect of beta testing. If developers want only testers with 2nd generation iPod Touch devices (for example), they can set this for their beta application, and only beta testers with these devices will be able to apply.

  11. What information can developers see about beta tester?
Privacy is important and we take it very seriously. Developers can see beta tester's username, first name (for more professional communication), device they used to apply for the beta (the type and the UDID), and the country the tester is from. At no time can they see your email address.

  12. Why do developers have to know the country beta tester is from?
This is especially important since iBetaTest.com is an International community of developers and testers from over 65 countries! Some developers need to test their devices only within their country (say, because of a language barrier), others would maybe like to diversify their beta testers pool so they have as many testers as possible from different countries. This is why this piece of information becomes very important for developers to have.

  13. What features are there for beta testers?
We take care of beta testers so developers do not have to: they get all the info from us on how to install apps, the system notifies them if their UDID has been provisioned yet or not so they know if they should download the files, and we even have some how-to videos on how to do things (like installing an application, finding the UDID, etc.).

  14. Do you have a Forum or something like it?
We have a very nice Forum, where everyone can chat, get to know each other, and ask any questions.
It is split into 4 categories:
    - iBetaTest.com System - for official announcements, feedback, bug reports, etc.
    - Beta Tester Forums - for beta tester how-to's, general iphone/ipod touch talk, etc.
    - Developer Forums - with iPhone Dev School, developer how-to's, etc.
    - General Chit Chat Forums - for all other topics.

  15. Where do I find the betas to test?
In the top menu, there is a link to All betas which will take you to the list of currently public betas.

  16. Are there any rewards?
As a matter of fact there are. First off, all developers have an option to offer some kind of an incentive for beta testers participation. While this is not required, most choose to either give out free codes for their App once it is in the App Store, or Amazon Gift Cards (however they can give out anything: coupons, gift cards, money, etc.).

  17. What's the Beta Tester Rating System for?
Helping developers choose good testers. All developers can rate their beta testers from 1 to 5 stars. Each star is worth 10 points, and first beta testers to reach 200, 500, 1000, and so on points will be rewarded some really nice goodies.

  18. What rewards will iBetaTest.com offer to it's highest rated beta testers?
We'll start small first, iBetaTest T-shirt, cup, etc. - and progress as the time goes by to more valuable rewards (even an iPhone will be given at one point!).
    * more info on this coming soon so stay tuned! :)

  19. What about the possibility of apps being hacked?
All applications can be hacked and/or cracked. Even the applications currently in the iTunes App Store cannot be protected. iBetaTest.com does not present any greater or smaller chance for this occurring than beta testing your apps anywhere elsewhere, however, one has to really wonder why in the World would anyone want to even bother hacking a buggy, sometimes not even close to be finished BETA!?

  20. Since you're in beta, what other features can we expect and where do we submit bug reports?
Glad you asked! Our Official To-do List is located in the Forum, which is also the place for reporting all Bugs you happen to find. Note, this is for bugs you find on iBetaTest.com! You report bugs about the beta you are participating in, on that application's home page (once you are approved you will be able to see the Reports module).
